About Rob

Rob Allen is an optometrist with a speciality interest in contact lenses and ocular therapeutics. After completing four years of optometry studies in South Africa, he spent the next seventeen years in solo private practice. He also worked one day a week in the eye department of a large teaching hospital. It was there that he developed a keen interest in fitting contact lenses to assist patients with poor vision from conditions such as keratoconus and irregular astigmatism where an adequate level of vision could only be obtained with rigid gas permeable contact lenses.

In 1990 Rob travelled to the United Kingdom and sat the professional qualifying exams in London. After successful completion he registered to practice in New Zealand and in 1995 moved with his family to Auckland.

In 2009/10 Rob completed a two year post graduate course at the University of Auckland enabling him to prescribe topical medications for the treatment of anterior segment eye disease.

In October 2012 he joined Gary Filer Optometrists in Manukau, Auckland.
